Auto China: Nissan shows its EVs, PHEVs of the future

Nissan has made use of Auto China 2024 in showcasing its future direction when it comes to electrification.

Headlining the brand’s lineup for this year’s motor show are four NEV concepts – two EVs, and two plug-in hybrids that are tailored for the Chinese market. The four vehicles are being made together with Dongfeng - Nissan’s joint venture partner in China.

Nissan Epoch Concept EV

Nissan only showed a digital version of the Epoch Concept EV sedan, but the brand says the model is designed for urban and suburban go-getters who wish to enhance their lifestyles with design and technologies. The concept makes use of AI-expanded Internet of Things, with a virtual personal assistant that also recognizes the behavior and emotions of its occupants.

Nissan Epic Concept EV

Meanwhile, the Nissan Epic Concept EV takes the shape of an SUV. Aside from having go-anywhere capabilities, it features autonomous driving capabilities. The vehicle can function as a mobile power source, with electricity to power equipment, campsites or parties thanks to Nissan’s Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) technology.

Nissan Era Concept PHEV

The Era Concept, on the other hand, shares quite similar exterior features with the Epic Concept. But for the former, it’s a PHEV instead of a full-on EV. Nissan says the PHEV SUV has zero-gravity seats, an advanced e-4ORCE all-wheel drive system and active air suspension for a comfortable drive.

Nissan Evo Concept PHEV

Last but not least is the Evo Concept. Not to be mistaken with Mitsubishi’s Evolution, the Evo Concept sedan features a plug-in hybrid system plus intelligent driving and safety functions. Along with the Epoch Concept EV, the Evo Concept PHEV sedan has an AI-enhanced virtual personal assistant.

Also shown for the first time in China are the Hyper concepts of Nissan, particularly the Hyper Force concept which premiered at the Japan Mobility Show last October. These are all part of Nissan's global plans that include launching 30 new models by the end of fiscal year 2026.
