Bangkok 2025: Will the Mazda 6e EV make sense in PH?

It was back during the 2024 Auto Beijing wherein Mazda revealed the 6e EV. Based on Changan's sub-brand, the Deepal L07, the Mazda 6e trades internal combustion for a zero-emissions powertrain while retaining the signature Mazda styling, inside and out.

The all-electric sedan is slated to be available in Europe later this year and we can perhaps expect it to be offered in Southeast Asia as well. This comes after Mazda previewed the 6e at the 2025 Bangkok International Motor Show before its local debut later in the year.

Despite being a rebadged version of the Deepal L07, Mazda made sure the 6e carried the brand's signature Kodo – Soul of Motion design language. The result is a sleek front fascia that's dominated by a large grille, tapered LED headlights, and a stylish bumper. It also has a sleek profile thanks to a distinct roofline that tapers towards a trunk liftgate spoiler, aerodynamic alloy wheels, and eye-catching LED taillights complete with a center light bar.

Mazda may have needed the help of Deepal to come up with an electric sedan, but we have to give props to the Japanese automaker for applying design changes to make the EV stand out more and look like a proper Mazda.

The interior of the Mazda 6e remains true to the brand's design philosophy. However, the lack of a rotary dial for the touchscreen infotainment system and the presence of a large touchscreen somehow give it away that this is not a true Mazda. Despite all that, it's nice to see that the interior is covered in high-quality leather and finished in tan. Neat details such as contrast stitching, LED ambient lighting, and a two-tone finish give the Mazda 6e its more upmarket appearance.

Specifics about the Thai-spec Mazda 6e remain a mystery although based on what they previewed, the all-electric sedan will offer 50:50 weight distribution, up to 552 km of range thanks to an 80 kWh battery pack, and the ability to recharge quickly from 30% to 80% in just 15 minutes via a DC charger. Based on these figures, it looks like Mazda will bring the Long Range version which makes 245 PS, comes with an 80 kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery, and a range of up to 552 km on a single charge.

With Thailand set to get the Mazda 6e in the near future, perhaps there might be a chance the all-electric sedan will make its way here.
