BOC intercepts illegally imported McLaren MP4-12C
Fraudulently imported
The Bureau of Customs has just intercepted an illegally imported McLaren MP4-12C.
According to BOC Commissioner Ruffy Biazon's Facebook account, the said British super sportscar was allegedly imported with fraudulent documents. It was subsequently seized by Customs agents, and appraised to have an estimated street value of PhP 45 million.
Since McLaren has no official presence in the Philippines, the only source for these cars is through gray market importers and dealers. There are no details yet as to who the owner or intended customer is for the MP4-12C.
While we laud the efforts of the BOC in apprehending illegally imported cars, as for the “estimated” PhP 45 million street value, a typical McLaren MP4-12C is locally available (from the gray market) at around PhP 18 million.
