Japanese manufacturer Mitsuoka is at it again with its retro-designed vehicles.

While we've already seen previous examples of Mitsuoka transforming the latest Civic into an old-school Dodge Challenger and turning a RAV4 into a retro-inspired Chevrolet SUV, the coachbuilder has decided to alter the MX-5 into a piece of classic Americana.

Say hello to the Mitsuoka LA1, a Mazda MX-5 ND that's masquerading as a first-generation (C1) Chevrolet Corvette. From the signature dual headlights to the flowing bodywork, as well as the old-school-inspired alloy wheels and bumper designs, it has the hallmarks of the C1 Corvette, albeit downsized.

The Corvette-inspired LA1 also features a vented hood, long overhangs just like the original car, elongated taillights, a unique trunk lid, and chrome bumpers. If anything, the only thing the LA1 lacks is the bow-tie badges or the old-school Chevrolet emblem on the fenders.

While this is not the first time Mitsuoka has done a Corvette-inspired design (they previously used an MX-5 ND for the Corvette C2-inspired Rockstar), this is the first time they have done it on a first-generation Corvette.

The full specifications have yet to be revealed by Mitsuoka. But given that their builds carry over the stock powertrain, the LA1 will most likely get the 1.5L (JDM version) SkyActiv-G inline-four that makes 131 PS with 150 Nm of torque. It is then mated to either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed automatic transmission that drives the rear wheels.

Mitsuoka will hold the full reveal of the LA1 on November 26, 2026. Meanwhile, order books for the C1 Corvette-inspired vehicle will open on November 27, 2026. Pricing has yet to be revealed, although we won't be surprised if it has quite the price tag.
