GAC Motor PH previews all-new M8 luxury minivan

Remember when GAC Motor PH announced last September that they would be bringing the all-new M8 luxury minivan? The company is already making final preparations for its upcoming arrival in the country.

Well, GAC Motor PH has decided to further whet the appetite of the (luxury-minded) motoring public after they showcased a preview model of the soon-to-be-launched M8. During a dealer conference event at the Manila Peninsula, GAC brought a black M8 and displayed it in the driveway of the hotel.

Just like the vehicle we saw over in Guangzhou several months ago, the luxury minivan features a massive and stylish grille at the front that is complemented by a pair of LED headlights. It also comes with inverted L-shaped LED daytime running lights that further highlight the vehicle’s imposing front end. Last but not least, it gets power sliding doors on both sides and a power tailgate at the back.

While we have yet to see the inside of the vehicle, we can expect the M8 to get a pair of digital displays - one serves as the instrument cluster while the other is the touchscreen infotainment. As far as amenities are concerned, a pair of captain seats on the second may serve as the best seat inside the minivan and may be complemented by a massage function for both seats along with ottomans. It will even have a Rolls-Royce-like starlight ceiling which will surely dazzle occupants.

No powertrain details have been revealed just yet. However, the PH-spec M8 could most likely get a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder under the hood that makes 253 PS with 390 Nm of torque. It is then mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission that drives the front wheels. Another possible powertrain is the 2.0-liter hybrid which consists of a four-cylinder engine that’s assisted by an electric motor. This one makes a respectable 190 PS and is mated to a CVT driving the front wheels.

At the time of writing, pricing for the upcoming GAC M8 has yet to be announced. However, a well-placed source shared with us that the M8 will be available in two variants once launched. Pricing is still being negotiated but M8 could start at PHP 3 million for the entry-level version while the top-of-the-line model may sell for around PHP 4 million.
