Chery Auto PH gets approval for a 1.5-liter engine for a possibly new model
A few days ago, Chery Auto Philippines announced that they will soon test a new batch of electrified vehicles. The test lineup will consist of two EVs and one plug-in hybrid (PHEV). Based on the teaser photo Chery released, it looks like they will be testing the eQ1 and the eQ7 EVs. As for the PHEV, our best guess is that Chery will be testing the Tiggo 7 Pro PHEV (AKA the Tiggo 7 Plus New Energy).
No other details about the EVs and the single PHEV were revealed by Chery Auto PH. However, it looks like the automaker has already secured government approval for one of the said vehicles. Based on insider information, Chery Auto Philippines recently got approval for a vehicle with an engine displacement of 1498cc.
Chery Auto PH already makes use of 1.5-liter engines in the Tiggo 2 Pro, Tiggo 5X Pro, Tiggo 7 Pro, and the Tiggo 8 Pro e+ PHEV. However, since this is a new approval and the fact that Chery will be testing another plug-in hybrid vehicle soon, this leads us to believe that the newly approved powertrain is for the rumored Tiggo 7 Pro PHEV.
Over in the PRC, the Tiggo 7 Pro PHEV is powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and is helped by two electric motors along with a 19.27 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The result is a combined system output of 326 PS and 545 Nm of torque. If those figures look familiar, that's because it's the same powertrain seeing use in the Tiggo 8 Pro e+ PHEV that's already in the Philippines.
With no other details to go on, we'll be keeping a close eye on what Chery Auto PH has in store in the near future. Hopefully, our hunch is right and the company is already preparing the supposed Tiggo 7 Pro PHEV.
