Next-generation CR-V is first Honda vehicle in PH to come with Honda Connect, hybrid system
Since the Honda CR-V arrived in the country in 1997, the automaker has sold over 70,000 examples and has become a household name in the Philippines. After more than 25 years since it made its Philippine debut, Honda Cars Philippines Inc (HCPI) seeks to solidify its place in the C-segment crossover market with an all-new version.
Ladies and gentlemen, this is the 2024 Honda CR-V. Now on its sixth generation, the compact crossover has not only grown in size, but it has also become more cutting-edge with its plethora of new technologies. In addition, the next-generation crossover gets a sporty redesign and is available with hybrid power for the first time in the country.
Beginning with its looks, the 2024 CR-V features Honda’s new design language. A pair of sleek LED headlights adorn the front fascia and are paired with a new honeycomb grille design. The top-spec RS gets a piano black finish while the VX and V models get a chrome bar garnish. Also worth mentioning are the new L-shaped LED taillights which give the vehicle a more distinct appearance.
All CR-V models come with 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 235/60 series tires. However, the RS version gets a piano black aluminum alloy finish while the V and VX variants are finished in silver aluminum. Size-wise, the all-new CR-V measures 4691mm long, 1886mm wide, and 1681mm tall (1691mm for the VX Turbo CVT AWD). The crossover also comes with a 2700mm wheelbase, a ground clearance of 198mm (208mm for the VX), and a turning radius of 5.5m.
Like the Civic and HR-V, the 2024 CR-V gets Honda’s Simplicity and Something design philosophy for its interior. This gives the crossover a simple yet elegant cabin that blends an ergonomic layout with high-tech, easy-to-remember touch-points. The V and VX Turbo models come with three rows of seating while the RS e:HEV is strictly a 5-seater model.
All variants get a 9-inch touchscreen media display with wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, a wireless charging pad, a host of USB charging ports, LED ambient lighting, automatic climate control, 8-way power memory seats, black leather upholstery, a power tailgate, and smart keyless entry.
Available only on the top-spec RS are the following; 12-speaker Bose sound system (8-speakers for lesser models), a heads-up display, a panoramic sunroof, and 4-way lumbar adjust.
Under the hood, the all-new CR-V comes with two powertrain options. First is the 1.5-liter VTEC Turbo inline-four which is available for the V and VX variants. It produces 190 PS at 6000 rpm along with 240 Nm of torque between 1500 - 1700 rpm and is paired with a CVT. FWD comes as standard on the V while the mid-range VX gets Real-Time AWD.
The other powertrain is the e:HEV hybrid which is exclusive to the top-spec RS. It has a 2.0-liter naturally-aspirated four-cylinder engine that’s assisted by an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery pack. The result is a total system output of 184 PS at 5000 - 8000 rpm and a meaty 335 Nm of torque from 0 - 2000 rpm. Power goes to the front wheels via an E-CVT.
The all-new CR-V is also the first model in the Philippines to come with Honda Connect. It complements the Honda Sensing safety system with its own line of intelligent features that will help drivers/owners locate their vehicle, monitor its health/service intervals, as well remotely control some of its features.
It comes with Find My Car which helps owner locate their vehicles should they have difficulty looking for them, Geofencing Alert which notifies them if the vehicle has been taken beyond a certain point, and Emergency Call which makes it easier to contact emergency contacts via the app. As previously mentioned, the 2024 CR-V also gets Car Status, Remote Vehicle Control, and Service Reminder.
Like the rest of Honda’s vehicle lineup in the country, the new CR-V comes standard with Honda Sensing. This gives the crossover a suite of intelligent driver aids like; collision mitigation braking, lane-keeping assist, road departure mitigation, adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, auto high beam with adaptive driving beam (RS e:HEV exclusive), and lead car departure notification.
Other available safety features present in the 2024 Honda CR-V include; hill-start assist, hill-descent control, vehicle stability assist, agile handling assist, anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution, Honda Lanewatch, a reverse camera with 360-degree around-view, parking sensors, a tire pressure monitoring system, and a host of airbags.
The all-new Honda CR-V 1.5 V Turbo CVT and CR-V 1.5 VX Turbo CVT AWD units are set to arrive this month. Meanwhile, the CR-V 2.0 RS e:HEV E-CVT will be available by October 2023. Available colors are Canyon River Metallic, Ignite Red Metallic, Lunar Silver Metallic, Meteoroid Gray Metallic, and Platinum White Pearl (extra PHP 20,000).
