It was back in July when we first saw the 2020 Montero Sport's official reveal in The Land of Smiles. Featuring a fresh new face, new high-tech amenities, as well as a slightly updated cabin, the seven-seater PPV now looks cooler and more tech-laden than ever.

Now, it has officially arrived in the country as Mitsubishi Motor Philippines Corporation (MMPC) is launching the 2020 Montero Sport tomorrow. 

Like the Thailand-spec PPV, the refreshed Montero Sport now looks similar to the Strada thanks to the redesigned front end. A sleeker set of headlights, a bolder Dynamic Shield front grill, as well as the Xpander-like foglights, give the 'Monty' a more aggressive look. The rear, on the other hand, has been largely carried-over from the pre-facelift version. Keen-eyed viewers will notice, however, that the LED taillights have been slightly shortened because of the revised bumper, and the lights now have a smoked finish too. Both the GLS and GT roll on 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 265/60/R18 tires.

Inside, the top-of-the-line GT now comes with a digital instrument panel which features three display modes. Meanwhile, a new touchscreen infotainment system dubbed 'Smart Audio Display' makes its way into the center stack of the dashboard. It supports AM/FM radio, USB, Bluetooth, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, as well as navigation.

A full leather interior, a six-speaker audio system, steering wheel audio and cruise controls, as well as a new multi-info display are present on the refreshed PPV. Finally, updated HVAC controls and two rear USB charging ports also make their way into the Montero Sport.

As before, the 2020 Montero Sport is powered by a 2.4-liter turbo-diesel inline-four with VGT and MIVEC. It produces 181 PS at 3500 rpm along with 430 Nm of torque at 2500 rpm. Power is then sent to the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission with manual select. The six-speed manual version, as well as the 4x4 model, will come at a later date.

Standard safety features available for the 2020 Montero Sport include: anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution and brake assist, brake override system, active stability and traction control, hill-start assist, hill-descent control, trailer stability assist, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and speed-sensing door locks. The range-topping GT gets six airbags while the GLS only comes with dual front airbags.
