The R34 Nissan Skyline GT-R may have left the showroom decades ago, but the demand for aftermarket parts is far from over. Now, one of Japan’s most recognizable tuning names is bringing back a piece of its own R34 history.

Impul has revived its iconic GT Bumper, originally inspired by the R34-bodied GT500 race cars that dominated Japan’s touring car scene in the late 1990s and early 2000s, and became familiar to a generation of enthusiasts through the Gran Turismo game series.

If the shape looks familiar, it should. The bumper’s defining feature is its massive, flipped-T-shaped central intake, reminiscent of the one used on by royal-blue colored, Team Impul’s legendary Calsonic GT-R in JGTC’s GT500 class.

The main difference in the road-going version, the turn signals were incorporated into the bumper, giving the R34 an unmistakably aggressive, race-bred appearance.

The original GT Bumper was made from FRP and became one of Impul’s signature R34 offerings. It even appeared on the company’s demo car, which featured a massive Calsonic 27-mm-core radiator and a tuned RB26 making more than 450 PS.

Founded by racing icon Kazuyoshi Hoshino, Impul has a long history in JGTC competition. Its latest release revives the legendary ’90s Impul GT Bumper, blending its racing heritage with modern track-day functionality while meeting the growing demand for quality restoration parts for the increasingly collectible Nissan Skyline GT-R.

It’s not just about looks. Engineers designed the massive central opening to maximize airflow to the intercooler, a critical requirement for any tuned RB26DETT. Integrated side ducts also channel high-velocity air toward the brakes, helping keep temperatures in check during hard driving.

The result is a race-ready profile that fits seamlessly with the factory fenders while preserving the Skyline’s legendary stance.

For Nissan enthusiasts who remember when JGTC and the R34 GT-R were practically inseparable, that distinction matters. This isn’t just another aftermarket bumper; it brings back a small piece of an era when race-car styling wasn’t just something to admire on the circuit, but something you could bolt onto your street car.

The revived Impul GT Bumper is now available in Japan for ¥253,000 (approximately PHP 101,335), excluding paint and installation. It is designed specifically for the 1998-2002 BNR34 Skyline GT-R, although the ultra-rare Z-Tune is not compatible.

The iconic Skyline R34 may be entering collector-car territory, but thankfully, the aftermarket isn't ready to put it behind glass just yet.
