Isuzu's Multi-Fuel Engine can run on diesel, hydrogen, biofuels, and more
Isuzu is out to prove they are more than just a diesel specialist

Isuzu may be known the world over for its powerful and reliable turbo-diesel engines, but that doesn't mean the diesel specialist is only known for internal combustion. From the D-Max EV to the Giga Fuel Cell EV, as well as the Erga EV bus that can do 360 km on a full charge, Isuzu knows a thing or two when it comes to achieving a multi-path approach to carbon neutrality.
Now, Isuzu Motors Limited is set to debut several concepts and commercial vehicles at the 2025 Japan Mobility Show. But what immediately caught our attention wasn't a vehicle. Instead, it's Isuzu's vision for commercial vehicles to achieve carbon neutrality.

What you're looking at is Isuzu's new Multi-Fuel Engine, and from its namesake, it can run on different kinds of fuel. It's part of the company's plan for a multi-pathway approach to lowering emissions and achieving carbon neutrality in its vehicles.
The engine shares key components from traditional diesel engines, like the cylinder block and crankshaft. However, the ignition and fuel injection systems can be modified to accommodate different types of fuel. That means the engine can run on diesel power, natural gas, hydrogen, biofuels, and even synthetic fuels.

Official specifications and other details about the engine have yet to be revealed. However, we won't be surprised if the automaker decides to release more details at this year's JMS.
Apart from the multi-fuel engine, Isuzu is proposing the next-generation internal combustion engine that offers both ease of implementation and cost-efficiency in the pursuit of carbon neutrality. With Isuzu already offering zero-emissions vehicles, the diesel specialist is set to show that they are more than that.
