Like father, like son: PBBM’s Presidential car is (also) a Lincoln Continental
PBBM arrives at PAF event in Lincoln Continental
"The apple does not fall far from the tree" is an old saying about how children generally inherit their parent's physical traits, behavior, and in some cases, even their preferences for things like automobiles.
Aside from inheriting his father’s looks and charisma, it seems like President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. (PBBM) also has the same taste in cars as seen in a video feed of state-owned Radio Television Malacañang (RTVM) on Facebook of the President arriving at Haribon Hangar in Clark Air Base, Pampanga for the 76th Founding Anniversary of the Philippine Air Force in a 2020 Lincoln Continental Coach Door Edition.
His father, the late President Ferdinand Marcos was chauffeured around during his administration in a Lincoln Continental Mark VI Signature Series. It was pretty advanced for its time – it was in service during his term sometime between 1965 to 1986 – as it already came with keyless entry, a digital instrument panel showing the fuel gauge, a trip computer, and even came with a rudimentary form of GPS (global positioning system). That vehicle is now on display at the Presidential Car Museum inside the Quezon Memorial Circle in Quezon City.
Back to the vehicle, PBBM’s current ride and the only vehicle in the country with the number 1 plate is a 2020 Lincoln Continental Coach Door Edition, which means it has rear-hinged passenger doors, also known as suicide doors.
Only 150 units were made and had the flagship Black Label trim, which means it comes with specially-coordinated exterior and interior appearance packages, including Chalet, Thoroughbred and Rhapsody Blue leather seats, Alcantara synthetic suede, shearling carpets, mesh, and aluminized fiberglass accents. The second row only has two seats, a large center console, tray tables, and even a tablet holder.
Each of the 150 units has an all-wheel drive layout and uses a 3.0-liter 24-valve, twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 that makes 406 PS and 542 Nm of torque. Its curb weight is around two tons, but that does not yet take into account the armor level it has as a presidential car. We are guessing it could have B7 or at least B6 ballistic protection, which may add about 1,500 pounds to the vehicle.
In 2020, the Lincoln Continental Coach Door Edition went for more than $100,000, but since it has been discontinued (meaning it is rare) and the armored plating will add hundreds of thousands of dollars more to its price.
