The Emeya is Lotus’ first four-door hyper-GT

It looks sad driving all alone at over 200 kilometers per hour in these ridiculous supercars. Sure, you can bring the girlfriend or wife, but extreme speeds and G-forces are not known to be natural aphrodisiacs, which is why we do not see couples on high-speed dates often.

Lotus is changing that with the marque’s first-ever four-seater and fully electric hyper-GT (grand tourer) called the Emeya. Now, instead of scaring your significant other during the drive to the restaurant all the time, here is a chance to suck the soul out of these speed freaks you call your friends.

“Bringing together our rich heritage with intelligent performance and the latest cutting-edge technologies, we’re pushing the boundaries for how a luxury electric vehicle should look and handle– making it truly for the drivers,” said Feng Qingfeng, CEO of Lotus Group.

The four-door Emeya makes ingress and egress easier for all vehicle occupants, and it does not hurt that it is one of the most luxurious models from Lotus. The materials it uses, from the luxury thread made from repurposed fibers from the fashion industry, PVD aluminum, Alcantara, Nappa leather, and Ultrafabrics PU, are all sustainable materials that are also sustainably sourced.

Assuming you can still head-bang as the acceleration pins your body to the seats, it has KEF’s award-winning Uni-Q® speaker design and Uni-Core™ space-saving subwoofer enclosure, as well as Dolby Atmos-enabled 3D surround sound. Plus, feast your eyes on its industry-leading 55-inch projected augmented reality (AR) head-up display (HUD).

Its gorgeous body discreetly hides all of its advanced active aerodynamic features like the active front grille, air dams, rear diffuser, and rear spoiler. These reduce drag, cool the batteries and brakes, increase downforce, and improve handling and stability. One of its best features is the electronically controlled air suspension system that checks the road 1,000 times a second, ensuring a more confident and comfortable drive.

What makes the Emeya a thrilling ride is the dual-motor setup and a full-time all-wheel drive with Lotus intelligent torque distribution. It has a permanent magnet front and rear motor, a single-speed gearbox in front, and a dual-speed at the rear. In unison, the system makes 905 HP and 985 Nm of torque. That is good enough to send the vehicle from 0-100 km/h in 2.78 seconds, and to maximum speeds of over 250 km/h.

Since Lotus figures you will be driving this vehicle a lot, it gets a 350kW DC fast charger that gives it a range of 150 kilometers with approximately five minutes of charge and a boost range of up to 80% within 18 minutes.

“This is a Lotus like you have never seen before. We’ve built on everything Lotus has achieved so far to create a luxury performance car for the drivers, designed to inspire confidence, exhilarate with raw emotion and pure joy – connecting them to the road,” said Ben Payne, vice president of design, Lotus Group.

Lotus has not revealed the complete specifications and even the price, but expect it to be well above $100k, which is over PHP 5 million). If your friend sounds like a guy with that much money to burn, get your barkada of four together. Do not hold your breath though, because production of the Emeya starts next year. G?
