Ex-MRT card supplier will supply LTO’s plastic cards

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) announced today the agency’s new plastic card supplier and these cards will be proudly Philippine-made. Banner Plastic Card, Inc., will be producing plastic license cards for the LTO at their Pasig City facility and hopes to deliver 5.2 million cards in the backlog by the end of 2023. Banner is the former supplier of MRT’s magnetic cards.

According to Department of Transportation (DOTr) Undersecretary for Administration and Finance Kim Robert De Leon, the delivery of the first 100,000 new plastic cards is targeted to be completed by the end of July, with the succeeding 1.5 million cards every 60 days until the 5.2 million backlogs are satisfied.

New applicants priority

LTO chief Atty. Hector Villacorta said the agency will prioritize new driver’s license applicants, as well as OFWs for the new supply of plastic cards. Villacorta also added that the LTO projects the “normalization” of plastic card supply throughout the country within the next 3 to 4 months.

Among the key areas, the LTO chief said that the National Capital Region (NCR) has the highest demand for plastic cards, followed by Cebu.

No extra payment

For those who were issued temporary paper licenses, the LTO reiterated that availing of the new plastic card will be of no extra cost to the driver’s license holder. Also, the new plastic cards which will be supplied by Banner Plastic Card, Inc., will contain the same security features of the latest driver’s license design and will be provided by the LTO’s IT team to Banner.

The distribution mechanics, other than the prioritization of new driver’s license applicants and OFWs, will be announced by the LTO at a later date.
