Lexus launches all-new three-row TX SUV

Sitting in the second row usually makes you feel like a second-class passenger, but no one I know wants to sit in the third row. Lexus aims to change that by introducing its first-ever three-row SUV spreading luxury throughout the cabin.

The all-new Lexus TX uses the GA-K platform, which has a unibody design made for mid-size to full-size vehicles and offers a front-wheel and all-wheel drive setup. This is also shared with the TX's Toyota twin, the Grand Highlander.

As the TX prides itself on cabin amenities and proportions, we will start with a look at the interior. As with every Lexus, the focus is on passenger comfort, but it does not stop in the second row. Unlike the three-row RX L compact SUV (which has been discontinued), the third row in the TX is not an afterthought. It can comfortably accommodate two adults and even has basic amenities like USB-C connectivity. Even with all seats occupied, there is still ample storage at the rear for overnight bags. Exterior sounds are eliminated using noise reduction.

Another benefit of the GA-K platform is the ability to deliver the marque’s unique Lexus Driving Signature. Currently, the TX has three variants: the TX350 with a 2.4L turbo engine that sends 275 PS to the front wheels or the all-wheel-drive system via an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Last but not least is the TX500h with a 2.4L turbo hybrid engine setup coursing 362 PS through a six-speed automatic transmission to the Direct4 AWD; and the TX 550h+ with a Lexus-first 3.5L V6 plugin hybrid system with a CVT producing 406 PS for its Direct4 AWD.

The front fascia of the TX features Lexus' new "Unified Spindle," which comprehensively unifies the forward functional elements including aerodynamic performance, and the body displays the ‘Practical Elegance’ concept with its toned-down, boxy design.

Each all-new TX has the "Lexus Safety System +," a suite of advanced preventive safety technologies to enhance long-distance driving support and improve the overall comfort of the customer's travel experience.

If you cannot wait to fit your big family inside the all-new Lexus TX, practice some more patience because this model is currently exclusive to the US market. But who knows, maybe someday in the future, your fambam might just be lucky enough to pick one up from a local Lexus dealer.
