JMC Philippines has received approval for a light-duty vehicle with a 2.3-liter turbo-diesel engine
Last year, Astara Philippines announced that they are the new distributor of JMC pickup trucks in the country. In addition, they have appointed an auto industry veteran with more than 25 years of motoring industry experience to lead JMC (and Peugeot), Mr. Arlan Reyes.
The automaker plans to hold its official market launch in the country very soon. But what vehicles can we expect JMC to bring here into the Philippines? Based on our previous report, the brand is looking to launch not one but two pickup trucks; the Vigus and the Grand Avenue.
We have yet to figure out what possible specs or engines the pickup trucks will get. Fast forward to the present day, and we now have an idea of what will power one of the upcoming JMC pickups.
JMC has received regulatory approval from the government for a light-duty vehicle powered by a 2.3-liter turbo-diesel engine with an exact displacement of 2296cc. Cross-checking with what engine powers the JMC Grand Avenue in the People's Republic, it looks like the Philippine market might only get the turbo-diesel version of the said pickup truck.
Based on the specs we found in the PRC, the 2.3-liter turbo-diesel engine in the Grand Avenue makes an admirable 177 PS at 3200 rpm along with 450 Nm of torque between 1500 – 2400 rpm when mated to an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission. When paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox, however, the pickup truck only puts out 400 Nm of torque at 1400 – 2800 rpm but still produces 177 PS.
As far as its size is concerned, the Grand Avenue measures 5450mm long, 1935mm wide, and 1872mm tall. It also has a 3270mm wheelbase, a cargo bed that comes in at 1546mm long, 1595mm wide, and 546mm tall, and a payload capacity of 495 kg. Last but not least, it has an 80-liter fuel tank capacity.
Over to its features, the PH-spec Grand Avenue could come with the following features; a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment display, Android Auto & Apple CarPlay connectivity, air-conditioning with PM 2.5 filter & rear vents, paddle shifters for automatic variants, power-adjustable front seats, an easy-lift tailgate assist, a front center armrest, push-button start, USB charging ports, and leather seats.
Do you think the JMC Grand Avenue will give other pickup trucks in the market something to think about once it's launched here? Let us know in the comments.
