All-new Subaru WRX and WRX Wagon officially revealed
After holding its global debut last year, Subaru distributor Motor Image Pilipinas has officially launched the all-new 2022 WRX in the country.
Unlike previous launches wherein the WRX is only available as a four-door sedan, the automaker has also brought the wagon version of the WRX. This means enthusiasts looking for a more practical (and spacious) WRX now have an option based on their needs.
The WRX sedan features a revolutionary redesign that is more aggressive than the previous generation. The more distinctive styling is highlighted by a large grille, a bigger hood scoop, sleeker LED headlights, boomerang-shaped LED taillights, a ducktail spoiler, and the quad exhausts at the back.
Also worth mentioning about the new WRX are the aluminum front fenders that reduce weight by 2.5 kilograms, and the unpainted body cladding on the wheel arches, skirts, and rear bumper that give the sedan a more outdoorsy look.
The WRX wagon also looks aggressive and features a similar LED headlight design and blacked-out grille. However, the wagon comes with its own bumper designs and LED taillights. Both the sedan and wagon are also fitted with 18-inch alloy wheels. However, the sedan comes with wider 245/40 series tires while the wagon gets narrower 225/45 rubber.
Inside the WRX, the wagon and sedan greet passengers with a full leather interior. From the dashboard, D-cut steering wheel, center console, and the seats, Subaru made sure that the cabin comes with high-quality upholstery. When it comes to infotainment, all variants will come with the new 11.8-inch touchscreen media display. It has Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, as well as USB connectivity.
Other available features inside the WRX include; dual-zone automatic climate control, red contrast stitching on the leather seats, aluminum sport pedals, USB charging ports, push-button start, and carbon fiber inserts that provide a sportier finish.
At the heart of the all-new WRX and WRX Wagon is the 2.4-liter turbocharged FA24 boxer engine. The flat-four makes an impressive 275 PS at 5600 rpm along with 350 Nm of torque between 2000 – 5200 rpm. Available transmissions include a good ol' 6-speed manual transmission and an 8-speed CVT. In true Subaru fashion, the all-new WRX benefits from the symmetrical all-wheel drive system (AWD).
Subaru says the manual version can go from 0 – 100 km/h in 6 seconds flat while the CVT variants can achieve it in 6.1 seconds. The top speed for both the sedan and wagon versions of the WRX is rated at 215 km/h.
For those that want more out of their WRX, Subaru is also offering the special edition tS variants for both the sedan and wagon versions. It comes with electronically controlled dampers, selectable drive modes, a 10-speaker Harman/Kardon sound system with subwoofer, an 8-channel amplifier, chrome trim accents on the front bumper lip, larger muffler cutters for the twin tailpipes, and power tailgate with a hands-free operation for the WRX wagon.
Providing extra peace of mind is EyeSight 4.0 which is available only to the CVT variants. With it, intelligent driver aids like pre-collision braking, autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane centering control with adaptive steering, pre-collision throttle management, lead-vehicle start assist, and EyeSight assist monitor to act as the vehicle's extra pair of eyes.
Other safety features present in the 2022 WRX are anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution, brake assist, hill-start assist, automatic start-stop, active torque vectoring, an electronic parking brake with auto-hold function, steering responsive headlight, reverse camera, high-beam assist, and a host of airbags.
