Volkswagen launches new Virtus sedan in India

Crossovers both big and small are the popular choice today, and it’s why automakers constantly introduce new high riding models. However, it seems the crossover domination hasn’t stopped Volkswagen from introducing sedans. The automaker even recently revealed the all-new second-generation Virtus sedan in India.

Think of the 2022 Virtus like the Volkswagen Polo or the Santana available locally in terms of size. The Virtus measures 4561mm long, 1752mm wide, and 1507mm tall with a 2651mm wheelbase. It rides on the automaker’s MQB A0 platform that also underpins the T-Cross, Polo Mk6, and Taigo.

Design-wise, the 2022 Virtus adopts Volkswagen’s latest design language. Up front, there are large headlights connected by the grille. The bumper also looks aggressive with a large center intake and black trim surrounding it. At the rear, there are slim LED taillights and an equally sporty bumper.

In India, Volkswagen will offer the Virtus with two engine options. The first is a 1.0-liter TSI engine that produces 115 PS and 175 Nm torque, and it will be available on the Dynamic Line variant. The other is a larger 1.5-liter four-cylinder mill with 150 PS and 250 Nm torque for the Performance Line trim. Transmission options include a six-speed manual, a torque-converter automatic, and a 7-speed DSG. The latter is exclusive to the higher-displacement motor.

Inside, the cabin layout is similar to current Volkswagen models. A touchscreen infotainment system sits front and center, while higher trim variants come with a digital instrument cluster. Other features available include automatic climate control, automatic headlights, and an 8-speaker sound system.

Currently, the 2022 Volkswagen Virtus is available only in India. As nice as the model looks, there is a very slim chance of it arriving in the Philippines. Volkswagen Philippines currently sources all models from China except for the Multivan/Kombi.
