All-new Subaru WRX, WRX Wagon coming to PH next year
Subaru is looking to shake up the high-performance market next year with two brand-new offerings.
After launching the all-new WRX sedan and wagon earlier this year, Subaru distributor Motor Image Pilipinas has announced that both turbocharged models will be arriving in the country next year.
This was officially confirmed by Glenn Tan, Deputy Chairman and Managing Director of Tan Chong Limited, during a press conference. According to Tan, both vehicles are slated to arrive sometime in June 2022. This means we will have to wait for around six months before both turbocharged vehicles make their official debut in the Philippines.
But what can we expect from the WRX sedan and wagon models?
Starting with the four-door, the all-new WRX gets a more aggressive styling compared to the previous generation. Borrowing styling cues from the Viziv Performance Concept first shown during the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show, the 2022 WRX gets a massive grille, an equally large hood scoop, and more aggressive-looking LED headlights/foglights.
Meanwhile, the WRX Wagon could be based on the all-new Levorg STI Sport R offered in Japan. Like the sedan, the wagon gets a mean look courtesy of sportier bumpers, 18-inch alloy wheels, STI badges, and a bigger exhaust.
Under the hood, both the sedan and wagon are powered by a 2.4-liter turbocharged flat-four engine derived from the Evoltis 7-seat SUV. The FA24F engine makes 275 PS along with 350 Nm of torque. The WRX sedan can be mated to either a six-speed manual or eight-speed Subaru Performance Automatic. On the other hand, the WRX Wagon will only come with the aforementioned eight-speed.
If you're planning to get one for yourself, better contact your nearest Subaru dealership and let them know you are interested in getting one. The order books aren't open nor are there any official prices announced yet, but it may be good to let them know you're raring to get one.
