Toyota, GAC joint venture is making two new EVs
Toyota unveils two EV concepts for the Chinese market

The world's largest automaker is looking to add more electric vehicle offerings to the world's biggest EV market.

Toyota has unveiled two new electric vehicle concepts at the 2023 Auto Guangzhou, which they plan to roll out in the next two years. The concept vehicles did not appear to have an English nameplate, but their Chinese names can be translated as the Comfortable Space and Enjoyable Space EV concepts, respectively.

The Toyota Comfortable Space EV Concept appears in a sedan body style and has roughly the same dimensions as the Lexus brand's ES sedan. There are very few details about the concept, but on the outside the Comfortable Space EV has retractable door handles, frameless doors, side cameras in place of side mirrors, and 21-inch wheels.

On the other hand, the Enjoyable Space EV Concept takes the shape of a crossover. Size-wise, the concept appears to be just as big, if not slightly bigger than the RAV4 and the bZ4X. This makes us think that both EV concepts may have similar underpinnings.

Unlike the Comfortable Space EV Concept, the Enjoyable Space has conventional side mirrors. Based on reports, Toyota could also offer the crossover with a single and dual-motor version in which the latter could be all-wheel-drive. Further reports also say the crossover EV will enter production in China by next year with a starting price of around 250,000 yuan (PHP 1.9 million in current exchange rates).
GAC will reportedly make the production versions of these two concepts since they are one of Toyota's joint venture partners in China. This will serve as Toyota's first EV with GAC, as the bZ3 sedan was made alongside BYD and FAW. As for their production model names, we should expect both to wear the Toyota bZ moniker.
