Last month, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) issued Show Cause Orders (SCOs) to more than a hundred motorcycle and motor vehicle dealers over delays in the initial registration of new vehicles.

Now, the agency is following through, as several dealers have been suspended, fined, and even stripped of their accreditation after being found to have violated LTO regulations on the processing and release of Official Receipts (ORs), Certificates of Registration (CRs), and license plates.

The announcement was made by LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao, during the agency’s “Kwentuhan with the LTO Chief.” The sanctions stem from the resolution of the SCOs previously issued against dealers accused of failing to process the registration of newly purchased vehicles within the prescribed period.

Based on the resolutions, 37 dealers were fined, 39 dealers were fined PHP 500,000 and suspended from accreditation for six months, while 12 dealers had their accreditation revoked and were blacklisted for one year after being found in violation of existing LTO rules and regulations.

Lacanilao says that the LTO’s action does not stop with just the issuance of SCOs.

“Hindi nagtatapos sa pag-iisyu ng SCO ang aksyon ng LTO sa pagpapanagot sa mga accredited dealer na hindi tumutupad sa kanilang mga obligasyon. Hindi namin hahayaan na ang kanilang kapabayaan ay patuloy na magdulot ng abala at paghihirap sa ating mga motorista. Ang mga dealer na patuloy na hindi susunod sa mga patakaran ng LTO ay haharap sa mas mabibigat na parusa, kabilang ang pagpapatigil ng kanilang operasyon.”

(The LTO’s action does not end with the issuance of Show Cause Orders against accredited dealers who fail to fulfill their obligations. We will not allow their negligence to continue causing inconvenience and hardship to motorists. Dealers who persist in violating LTO regulations will face stiffer penalties, including the suspension of their operations.)

The LTO said it will continue enforcing its regulations to ensure the timely processing of new vehicle registrations and hold accredited dealers accountable for failing to meet their obligations. Motorists are encouraged to report erring dealers and may file complaints through the Ireport mo kay LTO Chief Facebook page or through the agency’s other official channels.
