Hyundai's newest (and smallest) crossover is now in the Philippines. Slotting below the B-segment Kona is the all-new 2021 Venue. It now serves as the company's A-segment crossover and is priced at below PhP 1 million.
Aimed directly to compete against the Kia Stonic, the 2021 Venue measures 4,040mm long, 1770mm wide, and 1590mm tall (1565mm for GL model). This makes the Venue 60mm shorter in length, and 35mm narrower than the Stonic. It is, however, taller by 57mm (against the GLS). It also has a 2,520mm wheelbase (50mm less than Stonic), and a ground clearance of 170mm (15mm less than Kia's).
As for its design, the Venue features a unique boxy and upright design, along with a massive front grille. It gets the brand's familiar two-tier headlight design with bi-function halogen lighting, along with LED daytime running lights in the shape of a square. Also worth mentioning on the 2021 Venue are its boxy taillights that come with a distinct Z-shaped motif. Depending on the model you're getting, the Venue will roll on either 15-inch or 17-inch alloy wheels.
Inside, GLS models of the Venue come with a leather-wrapped steering wheel, as well as a leather shift knob. Meanwhile, the GL variant only has a urethane steering wheel and a soft-touch PVC material for the gear shifter. Other than that, all Venue variants benefit from a tilt/telescopic steering column, steering wheel audio controls, automatic climate control, 60:40 split rear seats, and a 3.5-inch multi-info display.
Providing infotainment is an 8-inch media touchscreen system. It supports AM/FM radio, Bluetooth, USB, as well as Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. It's available both in the GL and GLS variants, with the latter benefitting from a six-speaker sound system (the GL only comes with a four-speaker system).
Under the hood, the Venue is powered by a 1.6-liter naturally-aspirated, four-cylinder Gamma engine. It makes 123 PS at 6300 rpm with 151 Nm of torque at 4850 rpm and is mated exclusively to a six-speed automatic transmission. Sorry manual fans, the Venue will not be available with a stick-shift.
In terms of safety, all models of the 2021 Venue will have dual front SRS airbags, traction control, electronic stability, four-wheel disc brakes, anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution, reverse camera, and ISOFIX child seat anchors on the rear seats. Extra safety kit that is only available on the top-of-the-line GLS is the side and curtain airbags, as well as the rear parking sensors.
The 2021 Hyundai Venue will be available in five distinct colors: Cosmic Gray, Denim Blue, Lava Orange, Phantom Black, and Polar White.
