Refreshed MG ZS EV gets ZS T styling cues
The refreshed ZS has been on the market for a few years now. But for a long time, the EV version still looked like the pre-facelift ZS. To freshen up the look of their EV, MG has given the all-electric crossover a major update featuring new styling, fresh technology, and, more importantly, a larger battery pack.
Meet the 2022 ZS EV. It looks similar to the ZS T and adopts the new sharper LED headlights and taillights. As with most EVs, the electric ZS has distinct styling cues to differentiate it from its gasoline-powered siblings. The main difference would be the grille or lack thereof. MG ditched the grille on the EV, giving it a closed-off look. The mesh design is then stamped on for added effect.
Interestingly, the charging port is located up front instead of where the gas flap should be. Aside from the grille, MG also ditched the fog light and fog light housings on the ZS EV to clean up the crossover's front end. While the rear bumper remains mostly unchanged, the exhaust finishers have been removed; it is an EV, after all. Rounding up the changes are the new 17-inch wheels. We're not too sure what to feel about the new face, but let us know what you think.
Inside, the cabin adopts the ZS T's updated interior featuring a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment screen. In front of the driver, there's a 7-inch digital instrument cluster that shows vehicle information such as range, power, and more.
Possibly the biggest change would be the electric powertrain. In Europe, the refreshed ZS EV is available with two battery sizes – 51 kWh and 72 kWh. According to MG, the smaller battery will have 318 km of range, while the larger one can do 439 km. With a rapid charger, the 72 kWh variant can be recharged in only 42 minutes. For reference, the previous ZS EV only had 263 km of range.
There's no word whether MG Philippines plans to offer the ZS EV locally. But considering how popular the gasoline-powered crossover is in the country, they could dip their toes in the EV market with the electric crossover. It would also be a good match to the recently launched 2022 MG ZS T.
