MG Philippines joins turbo crossover wars with the ZS T Trophy

There's a new turbocharged B-segment crossover in town, and it has set its sights against the likes of the Geely Coolray. After posting a teaser image last week, MG distributor The Covenant Car Company Inc (TCCCI) has officially launched the 2022 ZS T.

Now serving as the new top-of-the-line ZS, it packs a more powerful engine, a revised exterior look, and a restyled interior complete with new and updated amenities/features. The new ZS T joins the brand's existing lineup of ZS models that include the Alpha AT, Style AT, and Core MT.

“With the new ZS T by MG, what customers get is an upgrade of all the best features of the original ZS, headlined by a responsive turbocharged engine that provides power on tap when you need that extra boost on the road,” said Atty. Alberto B. Arcilla, president and CEO of MG Philippines.

Unlike the non-turbocharged ZS models, the new range-topping version features the brand's updated global design language. It gets a smoother-looking front end with an Obsidian Matrix grille, a sleek set of LED headlights, and a refreshed front bumper. Meanwhile, the rear gets redesigned LED taillights, a smoother bumper, and additional silver trim pieces. To top it all off, the ZS T rolls exclusively on 17-inch two-tone Tomahawk-style alloy wheels.

The interior has also received a minor makeover. The steering wheel, dashboard, center console, door panels, and other high-contact areas now come with soft-touch surfaces. Meanwhile, the seats come with red contrast stitching that highlights the crossover's sporty nature. There are even red MG monograms on the driver and front passenger headrests to add that extra flair.

Infotainment on the ZS T comes in the form of a 10-inch touchscreen that comes with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto as standard. Audio is then routed through a six-speaker sound system. Other available features present inside include rear aircon vents, a dedicated USB charging port behind the rearview mirror for neater dashcam installations, and a restyled instrument panel.

A 1.3-liter turbocharged inline-three powers the ZS T. It makes a generous 160 PS with 230 Nm of torque. Instead of a four-speed automatic, the turbocharged crossover is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission with sequential shifting.

As this is the new top-of-the-line model, the ZS T comes with a plethora of active and passive safety features. It has front, side, and curtain airbags, blind spot information system (BLIS), lane-change assist (LSA), hill-hold control (aka hill-start assist), cornering brake control (CBC), traction control (TC), vehicle dynamic control (VDC), and rear-cross traffic alert (RCTA).

It's also fitted with a 360-degree around-view system which gives drivers a bird's eye view of the car. This is especially useful when navigating through tight roads, or when slowly moving into a narrow parking space.

The 2022 MG ZS T Trophy is now available in MG dealerships nationwide and retails for PHP 1,158,888.
