2022 Peugeot 3008 ready to take on crossover stalwarts

Several weeks ago, Peugeot relaunched in the country under new management. Not only does the automaker plan on opening more locations in the country, but they also want to refresh its local vehicle lineup.

Following the launch of the facelifted 5008 that’s now sourced from Malaysia, the French automaker has launched another refreshed crossover in the country. This is the 2022 Peugeot 3008, and it’s a looker inside and out. Also made at Stellantis’ new assembly plant in Gurun, Kedah, the 3008 slots below the 5008 and serves as Peugeot’s compact 5-seater crossover.

The 3008 features an aggressive redesign as its other crossover stablemates. It gets a new frameless front grille, a new lion badge, and eye-catching vertical LED daytime running lights mounted on the corners.

The rear gets a new pair of claw-like LED taillights that add to the 3008’s more aggressive finish. Other exterior features present on the 3008 include 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 225/55 tires, black body cladding, and dual exhaust finishers.

Inside the 3008 is the brand’s next-generation i-Cockpit design and a host of other upgrades. There’s a new 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, 10-inch touchscreen infotainment with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, and an updated steering wheel complete with paddle shifters. Ever-present are the toggle switches on the center dashboard and the uniquely-shaped electro-mechanical gear selector.

Other features available on the 3008 include dual-zone automatic climate control with rear vents, a six-speaker audio system, auto-dimming rearview mirror, leather-wrapped seats, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, wireless phone charger, a panoramic sunroof, hands-free power tailgate, and a 60:40 split-folding rear seat.

When it comes to luggage space, it can carry 591 liters worth of cargo with the rear seats up. Fold those down and the 3008 can easily swallow 1,670 liters worth of luggage.

Under the hood, the 3008 is powered by a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. It makes 165 PS at 6000 rpm and 240 Nm of torque at 1400 rpm. Power is then sent to the front wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission with manual select. The 3008 is only available as a front-wheel drive crossover.

In terms of safety, the 3008 has plenty available. It gets anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution, brake assist, electronic stability program with dynamic stability control, anti-skid regulation, hill-start assist, hill-descent control, cruise control, a tire pressure monitoring system, a reverse camera, front and rear parking sensors, and six airbags.
