Mazda’s first vehicle under the Large Product Group has arrived in the Philippines

After making its world debut last year, Bermaz Auto Philippines Inc, the official distributor of Mazda in the country, has officially launched the all-new 2023 CX-60.

It's set to show Mazda’s more luxurious, upmarket side, and then some.

Serving as the brand’s first vehicle under the “Large Product Group”, it comes with a new RWD platform called the SkyActiv Multi Solution Scalable Architecture, a new inline-six SkyActiv engine, and plenty of brand-new Mazda features that are only available in the CX-60, for now at least.

Featuring a long hood short deck design, the CX-60’s design was inspired by sporty vehicles from Mazda’s past and current offerings. It also showcases the new design language the automaker will use for its new generation of crossovers that are aimed to offer a more upmarket look and feel.

Depending on the variant chosen, the CX-60 is available in two distinct exterior packages. The first is the Premium Modern which Mazda says gives a classy and refined look with urban tastes in mind. It gets a bright chrome finish on the front signature wing and fender garnishes. It also has a gloss black grille with vertical black slats and diamond-cut 20-inch alloy wheels.

The other exterior trim is called Premium Sport and from its namesake, conveys a sense of power, emotion, and excitement. Instead of having shiny accents, this one trades it for black chrome on the front wing fender garnishes. The grille, meanwhile, comes with a honeycomb design and is also finished in a distinct black chrome hue. Last but not least, the wheels are painted black metallic and also measure 20 inches.

Size-wise, the all-new CX-60 is bigger than the CX-5 but is smaller than the three-row CX-8. It measures 4740mm long, 1890mm wide, and 1685mm tall. In comparison, the CX-5 is 4575mm by 1845mm by 1690mm while the CX-8 is 4900mm long, 1840mm wide, and 1730mm tall. The CX-60 also has a 2870mm wheelbase and a minimum ground clearance of 175mm.

Step inside and the CX-60 oozes with sophistication and high-end quality. From the Nappa leather seats, 10-way power-adjustable front seats with memory function for the driver, and the digital instrument cluster and widescreen media display which both measure 12.3-inches in size, Mazda made sure the CX-60 looks sophisticated without being cluttered.

And just like the exterior, the interior of the Premium Modern and Premium Sport each have their own distinct finish. The former gets an all-black leather interior that’s complemented by aluminum-silver accents while the latter gets a tan leather finish with suede accents and graphite gunmetal trim.

The CX-60 also comes with a 10.4-inch heads-up display (HUD) which they claim is the biggest HUD yet. Other available features present inside the CX-60 are; dual-zone automatic climate control, 40:20:40 split-rear seats, a 12-speaker Bose sound system, wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a host of USB-A and USB-C charging/data ports, and ventilated front seats.

Two turbocharged inline-six engines are available for the CX-60. Both benefit from a 48V mild-hybrid system called M Hybrid Boost which consists of an electric motor integrated into the transmission and a 0.33 kWh lithium-ion battery pack.

The first engine is the 3.3-liter SkyActiv-G gasoline turbo inline-6 which puts out 284 PS at 5000 - 6000 rpm and 450 Nm of torque between 2000 - 3500 rpm. The other engine is the SkyActiv-D turbo-diesel which also displaces 3.3 liters and inline-6. It makes slightly less horsepower with 254 PS at 3750 rpm but it makes up for it with a generous 550 Nm of pulling power at 1500 - 2400 rpm.

Power is then sent to an 8-speed SkyActiv transmission. Unlike most transmissions, however, the new 8-speed found in the CX-60 does away with the traditional torque converter. Instead, it comes with a multi-plate clutch pack that directly transmits power to the drivetrain - reducing power loss. With the placement of the electric motor in the transmission, it can power the car independently from the engine which helps reduce fuel consumption. In addition, the electric motor enables regenerative braking which gathers lost energy to recharge the battery powering the electric motor.

Last but not least, both CX-60 variants come with a rear-biased i-Activ AWD system. The full-time AWD system primarily sends 90% of the power to the rear wheels while the remaining 10% is sent to the front axle. On trickier road conditions, however, the system can automatically send more traction to the front wheels in order to provide adequate grip should the need arises.

A full suite of intelligent driver aids under the i-Activsense safety suite is available on all variants of the Mazda CX-60. These include adaptive cruise control (Mazda Radar cruise control), smart brake support, lane departure warning, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear-cross traffic alert (with auto braking and vehicle exit warning), front-cross traffic alert, driver monitoring system, and a driver attention alert. Other notable safety features are; 7 airbags, a 360-degree camera system with a see-through view, smart keyless entry, and dynamic stability control.

For those that prefer their CX-60 finished in the new Rhodium White Premium or Soul Red Crystal, these colors carry an additional PHP 22,400 on top of the SRP. Meanwhile, the Machine Gray finish is an extra PHP 16,800.
