Nissan expands NISMO lineup with all-electric Ariya

Nissan has just revealed its newest NISMO vehicle. While some were expecting the automaker to reveal yet another souped-up GT-R, Nissan had another thing in mind.

Say hello to the 2024 Nissan Ariya NISMO, and it's packing plenty more power and features than your typical Ariya. Revealed to the public at this year's Tokyo Auto Salon, the souped-up EV gets the NISMO treatment inside & out and is set to deliver better handling thanks to special tuning by the brand's motorsport division.

Starting with the exterior tweaks, the Ariya gets a new front bumper that features a more aggressive splitter. The side skirts were also given attention and now feature a red strip which can also be seen on the front bumper, grille, and side mirror caps. Around the back, the changes are more extensive as the electric crossover gets a more prominent spoiler along with a gloss black back bumper complete with the signature red strip. Last but not least are the stylish 20-inch alloy wheels.

Changes to the interior were kept to a minimum although that doesn't mean NISMO wasn't making any (subtle) changes. Perhaps the only obvious change present inside the Ariya NISMO is the red piping accents that can be found throughout the cabin. There's also the leather steering wheel which now comes with a rally-style center marker along with leather-suede seats that bear the NISMO logo.

The Ariya NISMO is available in two states of (electric) tune. First is the entry-level B6 e-4ORCE which has a battery capacity of 66 kWh and an output of 367 PS and 560 Nm of torque from a pair of electric motors. Impressive, but the B6 is eclipsed by the top-of-the-line B9 e-4ORCE variant. This one comes with a bigger 91 kWh battery pack which powers a pair of electric motors that crank out a combined 435 PS and 600 Nm of torque.

No performance figures have been revealed yet by Nissan or NISMO. However, the automaker did claim that this particular Ariya benefits from a NISMO driving mode that maximizes vehicle response. In addition, the aforementioned mode produces a distinct sound that mimics that of Formula E racers. The automaker also said that the NISMO-tuned Ariya has superior turn-in ability & stability as well as better line-tracing and enhanced cornering ability at high speeds.

If ever Nissan Philippines Inc. thinks about bringing the Ariya here, should they also bring the NISMO version to entice interested customers? Let us know in the comments.
