2024 Nissan GT-R NISMO breaks production car lap record at Tsukuba

The Nissan GT-R is turning 17 years old this year. But apparently, it only needs a few updates to get back to its world-beating status as a supercar.
The 2024 model year GT-R NISMO has set a new production car lap record at the Tsukuba Circuit, recording a time of 58.820 seconds. Japanese racing driver Akira Iida was behind the wheel of the 2024 GT-R NISMO, beating the previous record set by the 2019 NISMO version of the R35 by more than half a second.
Nissan conducted the test along with Dunlop, who fitted the 2024 GT-R NISMO with the new SP Sport Maxx Proto tires. For reference, the McLaren Senna, which is a track-only supercar, lapped the Tsukuba Circuit in 1:00.12 seconds.

Tsukuba Circuit is known to be a popular venue for time attacks. The 2.045-kilometer circuit is also famous for being the battleground for many video episodes of Best Motoring and Hot Version.
With this new lap record, the R35 proves time and time again that while it’s platform is old, it does not mean it’s obsolete.
