2026 Toyota Vios Ativ HEV gets hybrid recognition from DOE
Toyota Motor Philippines set to launch 2026 Vios Ativ HEV very soon

In case you missed it yesterday, Toyota Motor Philippines has already confirmed that the all-new Vios is “coming very soon”. The automaker has released a teaser photo on social media, along with a hint of having the “Ativ” name for the Philippine market.
Naturally, that begs the question of what its official name will be once TMP takes the wraps off the fourth-generation model. Well, we may have been given a clue based on the Department of Energy’s list of recognized electrified vehicles.

In the DOE registry, the all-new hybrid model is called the Vios Ativ HEV. It’s powered by the same 1.5-liter 2NR-VEX engine as the Yaris Cross, and puts out 111 PS paired to an e-CVT driving the front wheels. From the available information, it seems like there’s a slight error in the battery capacity.
In Thailand, where the Ativ HEV was first launched, the battery capacity is rated at 0.76 kWh, which is similar to the Yaris Cross. But on the DOE registry, it’s at 18.5 kWh. Usually, battery capacities that high are reserved for plug-in hybrids. But nevertheless, the Vios Ativ HEV could get up to 29.4 km/l based on the Thai-spec model, which should allow the sedan to travel longer distances than its ICE counterpart.

Retaining the Vios name alongside the new Ativ does make sense for the Philippine market in terms of name recall. For more than 20 years, the Vios has been a household name and has consistently been the country’s best-selling model. This also retains the ties of the Ativ to the previous model, much like how Toyota used to do it with the Corolla Altis, the Tamaraw FX Revo, and the Innova Zenix.
