After giving us a preview of its bolder exterior styling back in April, Nissan has finally revealed the all-new, fifth-generation X-Trail to the world. 

But for now, that X-Trail badge isn’t present yet, as the Japanese manufacturer sells it as the Rogue Hybrid e-Power for the North American market. It’s a landmark launch for Nissan in the US, as it’s the first model there that comes equipped with its third-generation e-Power series hybrid system.

Let’s get right into the powertrain details. The third-generation e-Power system in the all-new Rogue uses a 1.5-liter, three-cylinder turbo engine – just like the current-generation X-Trail that we have in the Philippine market.

However, this is where the difference comes – the ICE charges the 1.67 kWh battery that powers two electric motors, which make a combined power output of 225 horsepower.

Nissan claims the all-new Rogue can do a combined 16.1 km/l, 15.3 km/l on the highway, and 17 km/l in the city based on their internal testing, which on our most recent drive with the fourth-generation X-Trail, is very much achievable.

As shown from the exterior photos released back in April, the all-new Rogue looks much sharper than the fourth-generation model. The front comes with a honeycomb grille with integrated LED headlights in a geometric pattern, with more pronounced creases and character lines on its side profile.

What’s worth noting is that the all-new Rogue still uses the Renault/Nissan CMF-C/D platform – the same underpinnings used by the fourth-generation model and the Outlander PHEV, but presumably with updates to improve body rigidity and NVH. It’s the same strategy they used for the Kicks e-Power where they heavily revised the look and its interior, but retained the same platform.

If the fourth-generation X-Trail’s interior already looks good, Nissan stepped it up another notch with the all-new model. In the US market, it comes standard with a pair of 12.3-inch displays with wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, but higher-spec models get bigger 14.3-inch screens with a 10-speaker Bose sound system as well. 

Despite the bigger screens, Nissan still swore by buttons, scrolls and toggle switches for the climate control system and the steering wheel controls for a less distracting and more user-friendly experience.

In terms of its advanced driver assist systems, Nissan put in the latest generation ProPilot Assist, which promises a more natural and more intuitive experience. The radar sensors, the cameras, and the software were all tweaked to cover a wider field of view and cater to a wider range of driving situations.

Nissan seems to be ahead of schedule with the all-new Rogue, as retail sales begin for some variants towards the end of 2026, while the full variant range in the US market will be available for sale by early 2027. 

With the all-new Rogue introduced for the US market, the X-Trail badged models are now expected to rollout next in Nissan’s other lead markets such as Japan and China, before the model makes its way to Latin America and the ASEAN region.
