Bangkok 2025: BYD overtakes Toyota in show sales bookings
46th Bangkok International Motor Show logs over 77K sales bookings

The 46th edition of the Bangkok International Motor Show was home to 37 global automotive brands and 8 motorcycle makers. With Thailand being one of the region’s most important markets, the show was a success for both established and new car brands in terms of sales bookings.
After 53,438 bookings in 2024, the 2025 edition saw a total of 77,379 units booked after the two-week event attracted visitors to the Impact Challenger Halls in Muang Thong Thani. But apart from the increase in vehicle bookings, there’s another key takeaway from this year’s event in Thailand – BYD logged more vehicle bookings than the region’s powerhouse Toyota.
In fact, BYD recorded the highest unit sales bookings among the 37 participating automotive brands with 9,819 units – growing from 5,345 the year prior. For Toyota, sales bookings also increased from 8,540 to 9,615 units in 2025.

GAC, along with its Aion and Hyptec brands, was also one of the biggest winners of this year’s show, as they recorded 7,018 bookings from 3,018 in the previous year. Changan’s Deepal brand, Honda, and MG made up the top 6 in the sales charts with 6,067, 5,948, and 5,910 unit bookings, respectively.
The sales charts indicate that the Thailand buying market is shifting towards electrified vehicles, as xEV models have accounted for over 65% of the show’s total bookings. While Toyota and other Japanese brands remain strong when it comes to hybrids and traditional ICE vehicles, BYD and other Chinese brands are indeed here to shake up the industry with their new energy vehicle models.
