GM to launch 20 all-new EVs by 2023
GM’s EV and zero emissions framework for the future includes two all-new EVs by 2019 as the automaker aims for a total of twenty new EVs by 2023

General Motors (GM) is looking to give Tesla a major run for its money with a big announcement earlier this week, outlining the automaker’s framework for an all-electric future with zero emissions, traffic and crashes.
“General Motors believes in an all-electric future. Although that future won't happen overnight, GM is committed to driving increased usage and acceptance of electric vehicles through no-compromise solutions that meet our customers' needs,” said Mark Reuss, General Motors executive vice president of Product Development, Purchasing and Supply Chain.
Part of GM’s strategy is to launch two all-new all-electric vehicles based on the Chevy Bolt EV, which only hit the dealerships in the US late last year, within the next 18 months.
Showing the world that they are much more ahead in terms of R&D and production of electric vehicles that what many people thought, these two EV units will only serve to usher in the other 18 models that will be fully made available to the market by 2023.
The automaker notes that their approach to an all-electric, zero emission future is two-pronged. GM engineers are currently utilizing battery electric and hydrogen fuel cell electric in order to satisfy the demands of customers.
During the event, GM also unveiled the SURUS (Silent Utility Rover Universal Superstructure). The SURUS is a fuel cell powered, four-wheel steer concept vehicle on a heavy-duty truck frame driven by two electric motors that will become the automaker’s emission-free delivery vehicle, truck or ambulance in the future.
