Manila announces closure of two bridges connecting Intramuros and Binondo
Motorists planning to visit Chinatown this weekend to celebrate the Chinese New Year (AKA Lunar New Year), heads up. The Manila Public Information Office (Manila PIO) recently announced that two bridge major bridges connecting Manila to Binondo will be closed to the public starting January 21, 2023.
Starting with the Intramuros-Binondo Bridge, both the northbound and southbound directions will be closed to traffic starting 12:01 AM tomorrow. This is to give way to the Chinese New Year Countdown Pyromusical set up at the said bridge.
As for the Jones Bridge, the southbound direction (heading towards Intramuros) will be closed to the public beginning at 7:00 PM. Meanwhile, the northbound side going to Binondo will be closed at 10:00 PM. The Jones Bridge will serve as a viewing venue where the public can watch the Chinese New Year Countdown Pyromusical.
The Manila PIO is advising motorists to take alternate routes ahead of time as there will also be a considerable buildup of traffic in the area surrounding Chinatown.
If you have plans this coming weekend to ring in the Lunar New Year, you better check what other routes are still available, and ask the locals where to go to celebrate the upcoming festivities.
