Lamborghini Lanzador EV concept graces 2023 Montery Car Week
Fans and enthusiasts need not wonder no more if The House of The Raging Bull will actually make an all-electric vehicle. At the 2023 Monterey Car Week, Lamborghini officially unveiled its plans for a pure electric-powered bull with the sleek Lanzado concept.
Serving as the brand's vision for an electric Lamborghini for the future, the Lanzador Concept combines high ground clearance, 2+2 seating, supercar-like styling, and a zero-emissions powertrain while still adhering to the company's unmistakable DNA.
“With Lanzador we are looking into our future without forgetting our DNA. The first coupés from Lamborghini with their front engines were sporty, elegant Gran Turismos suitable for everyday use as 2+2-seaters. The concept for our fourth production model leverages our philosophy of super sportiness combined with brave new technologies and fearless design, perfectly fitting into our Direzione Cor Tauri strategy,” said Stephan Winkelmann, Chairman and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini.
Starting with its looks, it's quite clear that the Lanzador is a Lamborghini through and through. With its signature front fascia design, angular headlights, and sharp profile, the EV concept looks the part of a Raging Bull. Combined with clean lines, muscular arches, and the aggressive rear diffuser & front spoiler, the Lanzador looks like it was cut from a solid piece of metal.
Lamborghini also wasn't afraid of borrowing inspiration from past and current models from their stable. In fact, they claim the Lanzador EV is a result of a mixture of the Sesto Elemento, Murcielago, and the Countach LP 800-4 in order to give the EV its unmistakable exterior design.
Moving to the interior, the EV concept wowed us with its space-age jet-fighter-like dashboard. With an emphasis on the “feel like a pilot” design philosophy, Lamborghini wasted no time in making the cabin of the Lanzador EV concept look and feel just like a spaceship. Both the driver and front passenger have a pair of screens while the center of the dashboard is simplistic in design with its rotary-like controls and floating center console.
Aside from making the cabin look like it was designed for the year 3000, Lamborghini made sure the vehicle extensively used sustainable materials. From the high-end Merino wool covering the dashboard, the colored thread made from recycled nylon/plastic, the 3D-printed recycled fibers for the foam on the sports seats, the sustainably tanned leather, and the carbon fiber panels made from regenerated carbon, the Lanzador Concept is environmentally-friendly.
Lamborghini did not mention any specifics about its electric powertrain. However, the company did say that it has an AWD system thanks to a pair of motors. It also has torque vectoring for the rear wheels for added traction and grip. The automaker also paid attention to its handling and via an active suspension, along with the aid of aerodynamics for improved downforce when driving on the limit.
With Lamborghini looking to reveal its first-ever EV by 2028, we still have around 5 years to wait before the Lanzador Concept becomes a reality. The only question now is will the production version remain faithful to the concept first revealed by Lamborghini?
