New PhP 130M Friendship Bridge in Angeles City to open soon

Good news for motorists that frequent the Friendship Circumferential Road West in Angeles City, Pampanga. Recently, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced that they are set to open the new Friendship Bridge along the major thoroughfare.

Officially completed last January 15, 2019, the Php 130-million project aims to help thousands of residents that are living in Angeles City, San Fernando, Porac, as well as those living in nearby towns. In addition, it will also serve to help motorists coming to and from the Clark Freeport Zone.

According to DPWH Region III Director Roseller Tolentino, the new bridge included the construction of two additional lanes, along with road widening. Anti-corrosion paint was also used on the metal structures for improved fit and finish while additional maintenance work was made to repair cracks on the newly-built Friendship Bridge.

“We constructed new bridge and approach with a total net length of 618 meters, and an additional bridge with a length of 240.8 linear meters, 2 lanes RCDG on Bored Pile foundation and approaches,” said Tolentino.

Apart from that, Tolentino added that the bridge now has slope protection on both approaches along with additional safety features like concrete railings, hazard markers, and pavement markings.

With the new road link set to be opened soon, DPWH Secretary Mark Villar stated that the opening of Friendship Bridge will finally resolve the lingering bottle neck problem on the existing bridge. With it, more road users will now be able to ply along from either direction, without having to deal with bottle necks on the way.

The new Friendship Bridge is located at Barangay Anunas, Angeles City and was constructed under the government's 'Build, Build, Build' program.
