When Nissan introduced the X-Terra for the Middle East market, we were almost certain that it will be the exact model that we'll get here soon as the Terra. Besides, it's the same model underneath despite the slightly different name.
But it looks like we'll have to wait a little longer for that version. The 2021 Terra we get isn't the same as the X-Terra abroad. The updates to the Philippine-spec 2021 Terra are relatively minor compared to the one available in the Middle East.
What's new this year? Nissan's Navara-based SUV ditches most of the chrome bits on the exterior. Now, it's all about gloss black trims and highlights for the 2021 Terra. Mind you, these changes are for the VL variants only. The rest of the range carries on with more exterior brightwork. Think of this then as something like a Terra VL “Black Edition”.
So, what did they black-out? At the front, it's the grille, the foglight housings, and the trim on the center intake that gets painted black. Also, the wheels, door handles, mirrors, and even the roof rails receive the same treatment. The only piece of trim that wasn't touched was the tailgate garnish.
The cabin is a familiar sight for current Terra owners. The dashboard and door panels are still the same as before, at least when it comes to the shape. For 2021, the Terra VL now has a two-tone interior, switching from the brown leather trim to black with brown highlights. Also, they replaced the chrome pieces with brushed metal accents.
As for the engine, it's the tried and tested 2.5-liter turbodiesel that's been around from the beginning. Power is rated at 190 PS with torque at 450 Nm. VL models are not available with a manual transmission, so the only choice here is a seven-speed automatic.
Prices for the 2021 Nissan Terra VL are as follows:
Terra VL 4x2: PHP 1,984,000
Terra VL 4x4: PHP 2,211,000
