Polaris Slingshot makes world debut

Polaris has recently unveiled the Slingshot, a 3-wheeled motorcycle that promises to make any journey “like surfing asphalt”.

It is an open-styled trike that resembles the KTM X-Bow but only has one rear wheel. It has body dimensions of 3,799.8mm in length, 1,971mm in width, and 1,318.3mm in height. The wheelbase of the Polaris measures 2,667mm and boasts 127mm of ground clearance. The trike sits on 18-inch wheels in the front, while a 20-inch wheel governs the rear. The lightness is partly due to body panels that are made from polymer which according to Polaris, guarantees rustproofing and better rigidity in a crash. Standard exterior equipment include projector-beam headlamps and LED taillights.

The interior of the Slingshot comes with a plethora of standard equipment like adjustable waterproof seats, a locking glove box, a tilt steering wheel, a 4.3-inch LCD screen that comes with Bluetooth and USB Connectivity, a 6 speaker sound system and a reversing camera. For storage, it has two lockable bins that can fit a helmet or a backpack.

Powering the Slingshot is a GM-sourced 2.4L EcoTec engine that cranks out 175PS at 6,200rpm with a torque rating of 225Nm at 4,700 rpm. Power is delivered by a 5-speed manual gearbox connected to the center rear wheel via a carbon-reinforced drive belt. The two front wishbone suspensions are created from forged aluminum and has an electric power steering with ESC.  It only weighs in at 771kg, partly due to body panels that are made from polymer which according to Polaris, guarantees rustproofing and better rigidity in a crash.  Other amenities featured in the car are a 3-point seatbelt harness and roll hoops in case the car tips over on its roof in an accident or crash.

Prices start at USD 19,999 (around PHP 868,000)and will bump all the way up to USD 23,999 (around PHP 1,041,500) for the SL model. It comes with a 2 year unlimited warranty as standard though 3 years can be added to the warranty for an additional cost.
