SPIED: Hyundai spotted testing the Ioniq 2 EV
The Ioniq 2 could be Hyundai's answer for a small and stylish EV

For the longest time. Hyundai has been making electric crossovers and sedans. These include the likes of the Ioniq 5, Ioniq 6, and the Ioniq 9. They also have the Kona Electric, but it's still a relatively big vehicle. While they're nice and all, these vehicles are not exactly small and carry quite a price tag. What Hyundai needs is a smaller and more affordable EV to attract buyers who are on a budget.

Fortunately, it looks like Hyundai has thought of that idea, as the automaker was recently spotted testing a camouflaged small EV. According to our spy photographers, the disguised Hyundai is reportedly called the Ioniq 2, and it will serve as the brand's smallest EV yet.

Spotted being tested near the Hyundai Technical Center in Russelheim, Germany, the camouflaged EV appears to be a hatchback with a coupe-inspired design. It's internally known as the “BJ1” and is built on the brand's E-GMP platform. Its overall design has yet to be revealed, although it's quite apparent it will have a sloping roofline and what looks to be an edgy appearance.
Size-wise, the Ioniq 2 will most likely slot below the Kona Electric and above the Inster. This means we can expect the Ioniq 2 to be a compact or subcompact EV. As far as specs are concerned, the Ioniq 2 will supposedly be available with a single electric motor and a range between 430 km to 599 km on a single charge, depending on the battery.

There's no word yet if the Ioniq 2 will be a global model or will only be offered in select markets. But given that Hyundai plans to introduce more battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in the coming years, we won't be surprised if the Ioniq 2 will eventually be offered around the world, perhaps including the Philippines.

Would the Hyundai Ioniq 2 work in the Philippines? Let us know what you think in the comments.
