Toyota wants to GR Sport all the things, reveals new range-topping Fortuner trim
Toyota is going all out to GR Sport all the things. Remember when we spotted what looked like a prototype of a GR Sport Fortuner? Well, Toyota Indonesia has just revealed it in full.
Following the reveal of the Avanza Veloz GR Limited and the renamed Wigo GR Sport, the automaker has officially launched the 2022 Fortuner GR Sport. It replaces the previous TRD Sportivo appearance pack with a unique Gazoo Racing-inspired body kit and features.
Starting with the exterior, the dressed-up Fortuner gets a dark chrome grille, and unique bumpers available only to the GR Sport version. Further adding to the SUV's sporty makeover are the new 18-inch alloy wheels exclusive to this model. To remind everyone that this is indeed a GR Sport Fortuner, Toyota added a GR Sport emblem on the tailgate and GR Sport stickers on the bottom section of the rear doors.
Moving to the interior, this particular Fortuner gets a black leather interior, a 9-inch touchscreen media system with smartphone connectivity, power-adjustable front seats, and dual-zone automatic climate control.
Other key features the SUV carries include a fold-down rear entertainment monitor, wireless phone charging, and a 360-degree around-view system that can be viewed on the touchscreen.
Under the hood, the Indonesian-spec GR Sport Fortuner is available with two engine options. First is the 2.4-liter turbo-diesel engine that makes 149 PS with 400 Nm of torque. The other engine is the 2.7-liter gasoline-powered inline-four which puts out 163 PS and 247 Nm of torque. Both engines are connected to a six-speed automatic transmission with manual select and come with selectable driving modes (Power, Normal, and Eco).
With the Toyota Fortuner now available in GR Sport trim in Indonesia, does this mean the Philippine market will also receive the new dress-up kit for the SUV? It's possible. Remember, Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) does source the Fortuner from Indonesia. With that, the arrival of the Fortuner GR Sport is likely assuming TMP makes the move.
We already have the Vios GR-S in the country. If TMP plans on introducing more GR Sport models, the Fortuner would be a great addition to the lineup. The SUV is one of their best-selling models to date and has a somewhat cult following in the country.
