Last week, Volkswagen released the teaser photo of their Vision Gran Turismo concept. Now, the German automaker has officially revealed the Volkswagen GTI Roadster Vision GT at the annual GTI festival in Worthersee, Austria.
The Volkswagen GTI Roadster Vision GT is a Golf GTI show car that was originally created as a purely electronic CGI (computer generated imagery) for the Sony Playstation 3 racing game 'Gran Turismo 6'.
“When Sony asked us if we would develop a Vision GTI vehicle exclusively for the game to mark the 15th anniversary of Gran Turismo we didn't hesitate for a moment," said Klaus Bischoff, Volkswagen Head of Design.
The automaker launched an in-house competition where young designers submitted their designs.
"The Vision GT project offered a wonderful opportunity to sketch out extreme ideas and design elements of the GTI that are portrayed as vibrantly, dynamically and emotionally as possible,” Bischoff added.
The development of the GTI Roadster Vision GT takes design cues from the Design Vision GTI concept that was presented in 2013.

The front fascia of the vehicle has three-dimensional bumper and a splitter that is designed to increase downforce. It is equipped with a dual LED headlights and daytime running lights.
Volkswagen says the two-seater vehicle is aerodynamically optimized. It has a large rear wing to create plenty of downforce. The C-pillars of the vehicle extends into the roof-form and roll-over bar. The rear spoiler of the GTI Roadster Vision GT gives the vehicle a sporty look and the appearance of a wing.

The rear diffuser is infused with metal and has two “low-slung” taillights. The rear of the vehicle also features a trapezoidal dual exhaust tailpipes with the GTI badge.
Inside, it features a dual carbon fiber monocoque cockpit that comes along with race-style bucket seats. The seats and the four-spoke grip steering wheel are covered with Alcantara.
It is powered by a 3.0-liter V6 twin-turbocharged TSI engine that delivers 510 PS with 559 Nm of torque. Power is transferred via a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission. It can accelerate from 0 – 100 km/h in about 3.5 seconds with top speed of 309 km/h.
