Here are the first details, images of the all-new Volkswagen Amarok

The last time Volkswagen made noise about its all-new pickup truck was in January when they released another teaser image of the soon-to-be-revealed Amarok. During that time, the automaker also confirmed it will be available with a turbo-diesel V6 under the hood.

Today, Volkswagen decided to reveal more details about its upcoming pick-up truck. What's even more impressive is that they also released the first (camouflaged) images of the 2023 Amarok for all to see.

Beginning with the pictures, it's clear Volkswagen is not quite ready to take the covers off. However, it's pretty apparent the pickup truck looks more imposing than its predecessor. From its massive wheels, shorter overhangs, and more muscular exterior, Volkswagen really outdid themselves in designing the all-new pickup. We still can't see what will be its face, but we won't be surprised if it will look like the concept render they released back in December 2021.

Despite the camo still hiding most of its body, we couldn't help but see some similarities with its Ford counterpart, the 2022 Ranger. From the side mirrors, fenders, clamshell hood, wheel arches, door handles, and tailgate, the resemblance is there. In fact, the Ranger-based Amarok was spotted last year at Ford's Dearborn, Michigan test track, albeit wearing more camo at the time.

Size-wise, Volkswagen says the double-cab (aka crew cab) Amarok will measure 5350mm long, 1910mm wide, and 1880mm tall. Compared to the previous generation, the new pick-up will be 96mm longer, narrower by 34mm, and will be 2mm taller. Wheelbase, on the other hand, will be stretched to 3220mm which makes it longer by 125mm than the first-generation model. When it comes to payload capacity, it will be rated to carry 1200 kg while towing capacity is at 3500 kg.

Aside from sharing its body and chassis with Ford, the 2023 Amarok will also come with a similar infotainment system powered by the Blue Oval's SYNC 4 system. With that, we can expect the pickup to come with the tablet-like touchscreen that's available in 10.1- or 12-inch sizes. More importantly, it could come with features like Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and satellite navigation. Other features that will be available on the 2023 Amarok include matrix LED headlights, a Harman Kardon sound system, and a wide array of intelligent driver aids.

So we now know some of the details and specifications surrounding the 2023 Amarok. But will the pickup truck be offered here? Based on our previous report, Volkswagen Philippines is supposedly looking at bringing the truck to the Philippines sometime next year. Should that happen, we could see Volkswagen taking the fight against the stalwarts of the pickup truck market.

For now, all we can do is patiently wait for Volkswagen to reveal more details of the 2023 Amarok.
