Geely PH joins the B-segment sedan market with 2022 Emgrand
It's finally here.
After showing many teaser images and videos, Geely distributor Sojitz G Auto Philippines (SGAP) has officially revealed the 2022 Emgrand for the local market. Set to take on the likes of the Toyota Vios, Honda City, Nissan Almera, and MG5, the all-new Emgrand B-segment sedan aims to deliver style and high-tech and practical features at budget-friendly prices.
Visually speaking, the 2022 Emgrand features a stately design. It gets a bold front grille, wide LED headlights (halogens on entry-level versions), LED daytime running lights, full-width LED taillights, and 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 205/50 tires. The base model gets 15-inch steelies with hubcaps and 195/55 tires.
Size-wise, the Emgrand is pretty large for a subcompact sedan. It measures 4638mm long, 1822mm wide, and 1460mm tall. It also has a generous 2650mm wheelbase, as well as a 122mm ground clearance. It also sits on the same Geely BMA platform that is being used by the Coolray.
Open the doors and the Emgrand greets its passengers with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It’s available across all variants and comes with AM/FM radio, Bluetooth, USB, wireless screen mirroring for phones. In the top-of-the-line Premium variant, the touchscreen is complemented by a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel. On the more affordable variants, the digital display is replaced with traditional gauges and a 3.5-inch multi-info display.
Also worth mentioning, inside the all-new Emgrand is a two-tone White & Blue leather-suede interior. It is present on the seats, door panels, and dashboard which gives the sedan a more premium look and feel. The white-blue finish, along with the power sunroof and power-adjustable driver’s seat; are exclusive only to the Premium variant.
Meanwhile, the Comfort and S variants only get plain black fabric upholstery and manual seats. Other available features in the Emgrand include electronic air-conditioning, rear A/C vents, an electronic parking brake, and a flat-bottom steering wheel.
Looking for trunk space? The Emgrand has a 500-liter trunk space available. This can also be expanded to 1,100 liters thanks to the 60:40 split-folding rear seats.
All variants of the Emgrand get a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine with dual continuously variable valve timing (D-CVVT). It makes a humble 102 PS at 5600 rpm along with 142 Nm of torque at 4400 – 4800 rpm. Available transmission options include a five-speed manual and a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
When it comes to safety features, all models of the Emgrand come with dual front airbags, anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution, traction & stability control, hill-start assist, and tire-pressure monitoring system. Higher-grade models, get the added benefit of front side airbags, curtain airbags, reverse camera, rear parking sensors, cruise control, and speed-sensing door locks.
There are three variants available for the 2022 Geely Emgrand. However, the entry-level S version will be launched at a later date. With that, only the Comfort and Premium variants are now available at dealerships. The former has a sticker price of PHP 798,000 while the latter retails for PHP 908,000.
Buyers who plan to get one early will be treated to a PHP 50,000 discount for a limited time. In addition, new Emgrand owners will also be entitled to a 1-year free PMS.
