2022 Mazda CX-5 Turbo revealed for PHP 2.380M

The beating (turbocharged) heart of the Mazda CX-9 is now available in a smaller crossover. Aside from powering the brand's flagship SUV, the SkyActiv-G 2.5T now propels the CX-5. Say hello to the 2022 Mazda CX-5 AWD Turbo, and it makes more power than the naturally-aspirated 2.5-liter SkyActiv-G.

Let's start with the most important bit, the engine. The 2.5-liter turbocharged SkyActiv inline-four in the CX-5 AWD Turbo cranks out an impressive 253 PS plus a whopping 434 Nm of torque. It also has a 10.5:1 compression ratio, and Dynamic Pressure Turbo (DPT) that allows the engine to make power even at low RPMs. Output is then sent to all four wheels via 6-speed SkyActiv automatic gearbox.

To make the CX-5 AWD Turbo stand out from the non-turbo CX-5s, it gets a new three-dimensional grille with a signature wing design, redesigned front and rear bumpers that emphasize the Kodo design language, restyled LED headlights and taillights, and body-painted claddings. There are also new color options for the turbocharged crossover; Zircon Sand Metallic and Polymetal Gray.

Inside, the CX-5 AWD Turbo comes with Deep Red Nappa leather seats which highlight the brand's sporty and dynamic heritage. It also gets satin chrome accents on the window and door lock panels, a frameless rearview mirror, and blacked-out trims on the roof and pillars to create a more formal look.

Infotainment comes in the form of an 8-inch touchscreen that's powered by the latest Mazda Connect System. It has wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless phone charging, Android Auto, Bluetooth, as well as USB connectivity. And speaking of USB, it has charging ports for the front and rear to ensure mobile devices are always powered.

Audiophiles will be happy to know the CX-5 AWD Turbo also comes with a 10-speaker Bose sound system. Additional features include a power sunroof, a heads-up display for the driver, dual-zone automatic climate control, power-adjustable front seats with ventilation, 40:20:40 split rear seats, and a power tailgate.

The CX-5 AWD Turbo is available with a sticker price of PHP 2,380,000 and now serves as the new top-of-the-line variant. Still available are the CX-5 FWD Sport at 1,890,000, and the CX-5 AWD Sport at PHP 1,990,000.
