Back in December, Astara Philippines officially confirmed that GAC Motor is now under its automotive portfolio. With that, the company announced they plan to open more GAC dealerships in the country and launch new models in the not-so-distant future.
In fact, the automaker revealed that they will be unveiling the all-new EMPOW55 sports sedan and the next-generation GS8 flagship this January. In the future, however, they might also launch this new generation GS3.
Officially making its world debut at this year's Guangzhou Auto Show is the 2023 GAC GS3, and boy is it a looker. Featuring a more sculpted and aggressive design, the all-new GS3 looks like it came out of Cyberpunk 2077.
Starting with the most obvious first, the exterior of the all-new GS3 is highlighted by sharp lines, muscular curves, and an aggressive stance. Combined with a sporty flair, the new GS3 features a bold front grille, sleek LED headlights, flush door handles, distinct LED taillights, and stylish alloy wheels. Opt for the R-Style variant, and GAC gives the GS3 an even sportier look thanks to a unique body kit, larger alloy wheels, orange accents, and additional exterior upgrades.
Hop inside the 2023 GS3 and you're immediately greeted by a pair of digital displays. The first of which is a wide instrument panel, while the other is the vehicle's touchscreen infotainment system. Not only does this give the GS3 a digital cockpit, but it also makes for a sleek and high-tech-looking dashboard.
In the R-Style package, the cabin is adorned with the familiar orange accents first seen on the vehicle's exterior. It's also available in a two-tone white & blue cabin finish which gives it a more upscale interior. Adding to the more luxurious (and sporty) feel are the crystal-style gear selector, orange contrast stitching, a panoramic sunroof, and a flat-bottom steering wheel complete with a rally-style center marker.
Powering the 2023 GAC GS3 is a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. It makes 177 PS with 270 Nm of torque and is coupled to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. GAC claims that the GS3 can go from 0 – 100 km/h in just 7.5 seconds before reaching a top speed of 190 km/h. There are no reports on whether the 1.3-liter turbo from the current GS3 will be available on lesser variants of the all-new model.
The 2023 GAC GS3 will go on sale in Q1 of this year in the People's Republic of China. While Astara Philippines has yet to announce whether the all-new crossover will be arriving this year, it's highly likely that it will be revealed soon as the current GS3 is already due to be replaced. Here's to hoping we won't have to wait long for its arrival.
