Ford Edge L likely to debut at 2024 Shanghai Auto Show
In the Philippine market, the GAC GS8 is facing tough competition from established models made outside China. But on its home turf, it will have its hands full with a new model from the Changan-Ford joint venture.
Here's the 2024 Ford Edge L. And yes, this is the latest addition to the Blue Oval's Chinese crossover lineup, which sits above the JMC-Ford-built Equator and the Equator Sport that we expect to have in the Philippines as the all-new Territory soon.
Size-wise, the Edge L's dimensions sit between the midsize to full-size SUV segment. Measuring exactly 5,000 mm long, 1,961 mm wide, and 1,773 mm tall, the 2024 Edge L is 20 mm longer, and 11 mm wider, but is 7 mm lower than the GAC GS8.
In front, the Edge L distinguishes itself with full-width LED daytime running lights and sleek-looking headlights that flank the large grille. Depending on the trim level, the SUV features different bumper intakes, much like how Honda does it with their RS and non-RS trim models.
The side profile gets a rear window treatment that looks a bit gimmicky with the wave-like shape that has the L badge on it. For that upscale SUV look, the Edge L has flush-type door handles and rolls on either 20 or 21-inch alloy wheels. At the back, the boomerang-shaped taillights with smoked lenses complete the overall style package.
Inside, the Edge L has a 2+2+3 layout, meaning it has captain seats for the second row. The digital screens almost run through the entire width of the dashboard, with 12.3 inches of that reserved for the instrument cluster, and the remaining 27 inches for the infotainment system that has 4K resolution. Other interior equipment includes a heads-up display, ambient LED lighting, a panoramic sunroof, tri-zone auto climate control, and a Bang & Olufsen audio system.
For its powertrain options, the 2024 Ford Edge L is available with either a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder EcoBoost engine with 252 PS and 378 Nm of torque, or a self-charging hybrid with 275 PS and 405 Nm. Power is then transmitted to all four wheels through an automatic gearbox with an active 4WD system.
So far, there are no indications yet if Ford will offer the 2024 Edge L in markets outside China. But for the PRC, the SUV's launch is expected to take place in April's Shanghai Auto Show.
