The sixth-generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class gets a classier look

We've already seen Mercedes-Benz reveal the all-new S-Class and C-Class for the Philippine market. Not only do both sedans get a sleeker exterior and a high-more tech cabin, but the two vehicles now also benefit from the brand's EQ Boost mild-hybrid system that lessens carbon emissions, as well as provides extra oomph when it's needed.

But where is the all-new E-Class? Wonder no more as the automaker has officially revealed the next-generation executive sedan. Say hello to the 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class and boy does it get an upgrade inside and out. Now in its sixth generation, the executive saloon looks more dynamic than ever, gets a new futuristic cabin, and an electrified engine lineup.

While the E-Class has been known for having its own design not shared with other sedans, it seems Mercedes-Benz decided to give the all-new executive sedan some styling elements borrowed from the flagship S-Class. From the (optional) flush door handles and bold horizontal chrome trims on the trunk lid between the taillights, the 2024 E-Class looks as sleek as its S-Class sibling.

But that doesn't mean the new E-Class does not come with its own identity. At the front, it has a three-dimensionally designed grille that is available in either progressive or classic designs, depending on the variant. It also gets high-performance LED headlights that get a new look and unique LED daytime running lights that take the shape of an eyebrow.

Like the all-electric EQE, the 2024 E-Class shares a similar dashboard. As a result, the sedan is equipped with a free-standing digital instrument cluster along with a massive MBUX touchscreen infotainment system. And if that's not enough, there's an optional touchscreen for the front passenger to take the strain away from the driver.

Aside from having Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Mercedes-Benz also installed TikTok to cater to the younger generation. They even installed a selfie camera in order to record videos as well as the ability to stream videos. But won't these features distract the driver while on the road? Not to worry as a face monitoring system will deactivate video content from being shown if it detects the driver is spending too much time not looking at the road.

Also worth mentioning about the 2024 E-Class is its more spacious cabin. This was made possible after Mercedes-Benz stretched its wheelbase by 22mm (now measuring 2961mm). This translates to additional knee room and legroom which increased by 10mm and 17mm, respectively. In addition, Mercedes-Benz claims the bigger dimensions have also resulted in an extra 25mm of elbow room.

A wide array of electrified turbocharged engines are available for the next-generation E-Class, and all come with the EQ Boost mild-hybrid system for the extra get-up and go. First up is the E 200 which gets a 2.0-liter turbo inline-four that puts out 204 PS at 5800 rpm and 320 Nm of torque between 1800 to 4000 rpm. Next is the E 220d 2.0-liter turbo-diesel that produces 197 PS at 3600 rpm and 440 Nm of torque between 1800 to 2800 rpm. The E 220d is also available with the 4Matic 4WD system for extra grip.

For those that prefer their all-new E-Class as a plug-in hybrid (PHEV), Mercedes-Benz is also offering two PHEV powertrains at launch (in Europe at least). The range starts with the E 300e which generates a total system output of 312 PS with 550 Nm of torque and has a pure electric range of up to 115 km (up to 109 km with the 4Matic version). Last but not least is the more powerful E 400e 4Matic which has a combined system output of 380 PS and a whopping 650 Nm of torque. Like the E 300e 4Matic, this one has an electric range of up to 109 km without using a single drop of fuel.

With Europe set to get the all-new E-Class first, it might be a while before the sixth-generation executive sedan makes its way to the Philippines. Hopefully, Mercedes-Benz Philippines offers a wide array of extras and options for the PH-spec E-Class like adaptive air suspension, various exterior body kits, and perhaps the choice of selecting your own type of leather and color finish.
