All-new 2026 Mazda CX-5 launched with 2.5-liter mild hybrid powertrain
Third-generation Mazda CX-5 launched with evolutionary looks, new hybrid powertrain

The Mazda CX-5 is the brand’s best-selling model. For the past 9 years, the second generation has carried that torch. But now there’s a new one, and it’s got big shoes to fill.
Mazda has revealed the all-new, third-generation CX-5. Sporting an evolutionary design, the C-segment crossover has grown in size along with improvements to its interior and a mild hybrid powertrain.

Let’s get to the latter first. For the launch version, the all-new Mazda CX-5 has a 2.5-liter e-Skyactiv G four-cylinder with mild hybrid technology, making 190 PS and 252 Nm of torque paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission. Mazda’s new Skyactiv-Z hybrid system will still have to wait until 2027.
Size-wise, the all-new CX-5 measures 4690 mm long, 1860 mm wide, and 1695 mm tall, growing 115 mm longer and 15 mm wider than the second-generation model.

The look of the CX-5 is still very much recognizable, and it can even be mistaken as a facelift and not a full-on model redesign. The signature wing grille is sharper, while it now features stacked headlights.

At the back, the all-new CX-5 introduces the new “MAZDA” typeface instead of the Mazda logo on the tailgate. The taillights also have a sharper design that puts it more in tune with the CX-60 and CX-90.

Inside is where the all-new CX-5 has garnered mixed comments. While the design remains minimalist with larger door openings, increased legroom, and a new panoramic sunroof to amp up the amenities, some didn’t like the fact that Mazda ditched the rotary dials in place of a bigger 15.6-inch touchscreen display. With A/C functions integrated to the touchscreen, Mazda steps away from its focus on ergonomics by going buttonless.

The all-new CX-5 is also equipped with a full suite of driver assistance features, including a few new options in Mazda’s latest Advanced Driver Assistance System.
Europe will get first dibs of the all-new CX-5 by the end of this year, while other markets will get the crossover by 2026 onwards.
