MG Philippines holds dealer unveiling of the MG GT
Back in October, the first units of the all-new MG GT arrived in the Philippines. Sent in by a subscriber of ours, it essentially signaled the brand’s intent to launch another four-door sedan beside the MG 5, albeit more stylish and comes with more standard features.
Two months later, and MG distributor The Covenant Car Company Inc (TCCCI) officially revealed the MG GT. However, the automaker has yet to launch it to the public. Instead, they have only unveiled the all-new sedan to their dealer partners.
But thanks to our insider, we were able to get photos and details from the launch event. While we already know what the car looks like from the outside, we’re happy to report that it will also be available in bright colors; particularly in a neat shade of yellow seen here as well as the aqua hue from our previous report.
Another thing also worth mentioning about the MG GT is that it looks just like the ones sold in Thailand. This can mean it will be available with a wide array of features and amenities. In fact, we were also able to get a sneak peek inside the GT’s cabin.
Immediately, we noticed that it comes with a full leather interior as standard, including a D-cut leather-wrapped steering wheel. There’s also a digital instrument cluster, a new touchscreen infotainment system, a redesigned gear selector, more piano black accents, as well as a sunroof.
When it comes to engine choices, the PH-spec will be available with either a 1.5-liter naturally-aspirated inline-four or a 1.5-liter turbocharged version. The former makes a humble 114 PS with 150 Nm of torque and is mated to a CVT with 8 simulated gear ratios. The latter, meanwhile, comes generates 175 PS with 275 Nm of pull and is connected to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Other details about the rest of the MG GT variants are not yet available. What we do know is that the MG GT Alpha variant will be selling for PHP 995,888. If the price is accurate, it will undercut the top-of-the-line variants of the Geely Emgrand, Honda City, Nissan Almera, and Toyota Vios.
With the dealers already getting a good look at the MG GT, it might not be long before the public will be able to see the new MG GT first-hand.
