BMW gives the 4 Series Coupe and Convertible a minor nip & tuck

BMW has just greeted 2024 by giving one of its coupes a “Life Cycle Impulse” (LCI). In BMW speak, it simply means the automaker has given its vehicle a refresh or update. And to start the New Year right, they have just revealed the 2024 4 Series Coupe/Convertible.

Both the hardtop and droptop versions of the 4 Series have been given minor design revisions both inside and out, and more (and new) standard features across the range. The coupe and convertible versions both receive a sharper set of LED headlights. However, only the M440i variant gets the new Laserlight taillights that come with bundles of fiberglass that are illuminated by laser diodes.

There are also new 19-inch alloy wheels which can be specified by customers, specially painted accents, and a unique grille design, depending on the variant. For example, the 430i models get a new mesh grille with matte chrome accents. On the other hand, the M440i is fitted with a new gloss black grille complete with M badging, and blacked-out accents.

Elsewhere on the exterior, buyers can opt for the M Carbon Exterior Package which kits out the 4 Series with plenty of carbon fiber goodies. Last but not least are the new black exhaust tips which further highlight the 4 Series' sportier look.

Inside, the updates are more subtle but BMW says they gave the 4 Series get new steering wheel designs. The 430i comes with a two-spoke wheel while the M Sport Package version gets a three-spoke flat-bottomed design which is available for the 430i and is standard on the M440i. If you prefer something sportier, the Shadowline package adds the signature M tri-color stitching with a red stripe on the center mark of the wheel.

Under the hood, the 2024 4 Series comes with two engine options. First is the 430i which is powered by an upgraded 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four that comes with mild-hybrid technology. The engine itself now comes with redesigned intake ports and combustion chambers, along with updated electricals. Despite the changes, BMW says the 430i continues to pump out 290 PS and 400 Nm of torque.

Next is the M440i which gets a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six. It also benefits from a mild-hybrid system that can deliver a temporary boost of power rated at 11 PS and 200 Nm of torque. This gives the six-cylinder motor a total system output of 391 PS and 539 Nm of torque, an increase of 4 PS and 39 Nm, respectively. Both engines are paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission while AWD is available as an option.
