Espana to Sta. Mesa segment of NLEX Connector is 66% complete
Construction activities being fast tracked to open Espana-Sta. Mesa segment before the year ends

Earlier in the year, the first 5-km segment of the NLEX-SLEX Connector was opened to the public, providing seamless access from NLEX to Espana Boulevard in Manila. While it has already proven to be a convenient alternate route for motorists going from north to south, its full effectiveness has not been realized yet.
That is because construction works are still ongoing on the remaining Segment 2 from Espana to the vicinity of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines in Sta. Mesa. However, the Deparment of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has reported that Segment 2 is already 66.64% complete.

DPWH has finished 1.84 kilometers of the remaining 2.55-kilometer segment of the NLEX-SLEX Connector, including the on and off ramps at Espana Boulevard.
On the other hand, construction works for the entry and exit ramps at Magsaysay Boulevard in Sta. Mesa is being fast-tracked to allow DPWH and NLEX to open Segment 2 within the last quarter of the year.
When completed, NLEX-SLEX Connector Road Section 2 will link up with the Manila Skyway Stage 3. It aims to decongest traffic in the surrounding areas, faster travel times, and more efficient movement of goods from North to South Luzon and vice versa.
