Don't be surprised to see more Geely dealerships opening in the country. Sojitz G Auto Philippines (SGAP), the official distributor of Geely cars in the country, has just announced that they plan on opening more locations in the future.
Under the company's 'Geely Rising' plan, the automaker plans to take a more aggressive approach in order to reach out to more customers this year. Originally, the company planned on opening 15 locations last 2020, and 15 more this year. But due to the pandemic, they were only able to open a total of 11 so far.
“We are taking a more aggressive approach in reaching out to more customers in the country this year as we keep up with our target network expansion schedules which were stalled by the long-standing global crisis,” said Yosuke Nishi, president, and CEO of SGAP.
Despite the setback, SGAP is eyeing to open 13 new locations, with 7 set to open soon. These include Iloilo City, Pasay City, Manila, Santa Rosa, Angeles, Bacolod, and Dagupan. The other remaining 6 locations that are in the pipeline are San Fernando, Marilao, Tacloban City, Taytay-Cainta, Marikina, and Las Pinas City.
“As the crisis is seen to take longer, this year will definitely be another tough year to battle for many businesses. On the brighter side of things, I would like to believe that Geely was introduced in the Philippines at the right time, at a point where buyers are now demanding for more high tech and safety features in cars they wish to purchase yet still reasonably priced,” added Nishi.
Geely may be one of the newest brands in the country, but it has proven that it can take on the bigger brands. Just last month, the Coolray was crowned the best-selling subcompact SUV in PH for Q1 2021. Not only that, they were able to maintain their top-10 ranking in the country. Currently, they are ranked 9th in total industry sales with a total of 1,313 vehicles sold in Q1 of this year.
With a goal of selling 9,500 vehicles this year, Geely's plan to open more locations in the country could become the catalyst they need to achieve the target sales. Moreover, the company is also looking to launch more models in Q2 of this year. There's no word yet as to what will they be, but based on the teaser images on their website, it may consist of two new SUVs and a sedan.
